C Klein roses Yard Long Print Antique Victorian.
This gorgeous yard long print is a chromolithograph produced in 1895 by Muller Luchsinger & Co. of New York. It is by the Victorian illustrator, Catherine Klein, and was A Shower of Roses. The color layers align in perfect register. It is in VG condition. The print still has its original mat, gold frame, and old glass. There are some dirt specks under the glass, perhaps a few on the print, but since this piece is intact, we’ll leave it up to the new owner to decide if they want to take it apart to clean. The little specks above the center yellow rose were part of the printing process, and are seen in all of this print made, and were part of the chromo manufacturing process.
Although unsigned, the artwork is unmistakably that of the Victorian illustrator Catherine Klein. A smaller print of just the two left roses was also separately issued and her signature was included on that piece for documentation. This yardlong would be just grand over a doorway, kitchen nook, bed, you name it! Overall size is 13.75 x 41.5 inches. (The backs shows that someone hung it vertically in its old life, but it was meant to hang horizontally. Please inquire if you would like us to add a horizontal wire hanger.)
The wood over gesso frame is in VG condition for its age, with ornate scrollwork and little flowers that complement the print perfectly. It was most likely repainted at some point in its old life, and has some wear along the bottom edge. Please note that there is a tiny, and we do mean tiny, piece of glass missing in the lower left corner, almost unseen, as it’s right in the corner area, about 1/16”, right under the frame lip (easily replaced). The far right edge of the mat has a small watermark, and again, because of the mat’s color, is hardly seen, not detracting, but mentioned for accuracy (again, easily replaced if you so desire). Please excuse any glass glare reflections in the photographs, the left side looks lighter, but it's just glare, the color is even throughout the print.
